I am honored to have this kind beauty on the blog today.  Laurie Lloyd is one of those people you are just drawn to and when you are around her she makes you feel like she is your best friend.  She is very knowledgeable in all things health and wellness and is always willing to share it with others.  I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with Laurie and each time is a lot of fun.  I just love getting to talk with her.  Last time we were together in person, we were in New York and got to spend one of the nights enjoying great conversation and wonderful food at a hot spot in Brooklyn with another friend of ours.  Can’t wait to do it again!  Laurie currently lives in beautiful Miami with her family and if you don’t already follow her on Instagram then you need to get over there now to do it (@livlight_).  Her gorgeous feed is full of healthy meal ideas, outfit inspiration, and beautiful Miami views from her home.  I know you are going to love it!

APF Interview 10 Laurie Lloyd

What is your occupation?

I am a holistic health coach, nutrition consultant, recipe creator, and wellness influencer.

How did you choose this career?

I started my career in PR and went back to school to be a Kindergarten teacher (a million years ago). I taught until I had my girls and then decided to pursue my passion for health and wellness.

What do you love about what you do?

I love to educate people and help them to be, look, and feel their best!

When you first started living a healthy lifestyle, did you have a mentor or did you find more success doing it on your own?

I’ve always been very healthy and actually love and prefer healthy foods. My grandmother was a vegan when I was growing up at a time when it was very uncommon, so I’ve always been very aware of nutrition and eating plants.

I have over the years continued to study and learn about all types of nutrition and have found that we all need to find what works best for our own bodies.

What pushes you out of your comfort zone?

I tend to get uncomfortable in front of the camera, particularly video, which makes IGTV, YouTube, etc. a challenge, but I’ve been working to overcome that.

What kind of workout do you do, how many days per week do you workout, and for how long?

I love to walk outdoors and try to do it as often as possible. I also love resistance type workouts using small weights or just my own body weight. My two faves right now are Melissa Wood Health and Isaac Calpito (@issacboots).

What does a typical day of eating look like for you?

I am a total creature of habit and always eat the same things! I try to eat 75% plants, particularly focusing on non-starchy vegetables.

Breakfast: Either a LivLight Smoothie or Omelet with Fiber Crackers

Lunch: Huge chopped salad with lean protein or LivLight Smoothie if I didn’t have one for breakfast.

Dinner: Usually lean protein (I love fish and shellfish) and tons of veggies. Always wine or LivLight Cocktails!

Snacks: I not a huge snacker, but often have a bar (such as No Cow or F-Factor) in the late afternoon if I’m having a later dinner.

What inspires you to live a healthy and active life?

I want to set a good example for my daughters!

How do you stay motivated on a daily basis?

I find that my Instagram community definitely helps to motivate me.

How do you handle unhealthy cravings?

I allow myself a few bites of anything so I never feel deprived, but as I mentioned, I honestly prefer healthy foods.

What would you say is the key to balancing it all?

There is no way to balance it all. Motherhood, work, marriage, friendships, etc. all take A LOT of work and I think we just have to do the best we can and not be so tough on ourselves.

What is your favorite workout apparel?

I buy almost everything from Bandier. All Access is my go-to!

If you could only pick one exercise or movement to do everyday that would be amazing for your body, what would it be?

Walking outdoors. I use it as a way to meditate, learn (listening to podcasts), talk to friends or family on the phone or whatever I need on any given day.

What advice would you give to people to be their healthiest and best self?

Eat more plants and do some type of movement every day. Also, tons of water!

Please share your favorite healthy recipe.

I drink my LivLight Smoothie every day and it never gets old.

This Banana Chocolate PB version is my current fave…

  • 12 ounces unsweetened nut milk
  • 2 cups frozen riced cauliflower
  • 1 serving chocolate or vanilla protein powder (I use @ffactor)
  • 1 tbsp organic clear acacia fiber powder (optional for added fiber, not necessary if using F-Factor 20/20 Powder)
  • 1 heaping tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp powdered peanut butter
  • ½ tsp banana extract
  • Handful of ice

Blend all in a high-speed blender until smooth.
